Beating A-Fib: A patient’s journey and how Dr. Ayinde can help take control
Cardiology Associates of Fredericksburg brings Cardiac Positron Emission Tomography/Computed Tomography (PET/CT) to Fredericksburg.
What are the advantages of Cardiac PET/CT?
A Cardiac PET/CT exam is a specialized imaging test used to evaluate the blood flow and function of your heart. Cardiac PET/CT provides higher resolution images and is more sensitive than traditional stress testing with SPECT imaging. This means it can detect smaller abnormalities and subtle changes in blood flow, making it potentially more accurate in certain cases. It also allows for more precise quantification of blood flow and metabolic processes, which can be essential for assessing myocardial viability and identifying areas at risk of ischemia. Scans require less time than SPECT imaging and often involve a lower radiation dose, which may be beneficial, especially for patients who need multiple scans or those with radiation sensitivity.
This non-invasive test is the gold standard in cardiac perfusion imaging, and we couldn’t be prouder to offer it.
MWHC Makes List of Top 50 Cardiovascular Hospitals
We congratulate Mary Washington Healthcare’s Mary Washington Hospital on making IBM Watson Health’s list of 50 Top Cardiovascular Hospitals. This annual list identifies top U.S. hospitals for inpatient cardiovascular services based on performance metrics. Mary Washington Hospital was named to the “Community Hospitals” list. Patients visiting winning hospitals experience fewer complications, higher survival rates, shorter lengths of stay, lower cost and lower readmission rates. https://www.ibm.com/watson-health/services/50-top
Announcing the retirement of Dr. Scott J. Seidner
With sadness, we announce that as of January 1, 2018, Dr. Scott Seidner will no longer be a practicing physician at Cardiology Associates of Fredericksburg. After many wonderful years here at CAF, he has decided to retire and return to sunny Florida. Though he will be deeply missed by staff and patients alike, we congratulate him as he embarks on his new journey.
Dr. Seidner’s patients will be transferred into the wonderful hands of one of our other compassionate, competent physicians, here at CAF. You may request an appointment with a specific physician of your choice or see one of our nurse practitioners who will evaluate your individual needs and assist you in selecting a new provider. We recommend that you consider Dr. Arijit Chanda and Dr. Michael Foster, who joined CAF earlier this year. Like Dr. Seidner, they both specialize in interventional cardiology, and are prepared to provide his patient’s with seamless care.
To schedule your next appointment, please call us or contact us via our patient portal.

10th Annual Virginia Heart & Vascular Institute Symposium
On February 6th, 2016 the 10th Annual Virginia Heart and Vascular Institute Symposium was a great success! The number of attendees was the highest ever at 145 and FIVE of CAF’s physicians were speakers. Dr. Rana spoke about Peripheral Vascular Intervention, while Dr. Kauffman addressed Cardio-Oncology and minimizing heart damage. Dr. Lewis addressed outpatient management of chest pain, Dr. Tayal educated the audience on TAVR and Dr. Talreja touched on Electrophysiology topics regarding bi-ventricular pacing for cardiomyopathy and MRI conditional devices. We look forward to another great year of educating our community!
Dr. Tayal and a local patient talk about TAVR
Bill, a local patient, describes how TAVR (transcatheter aortic valve replacement) corrected the heart murmur caused by aortic valve stenosis and gave him a new lease on life. Cardiovascular Surgeon John Cardone, MD, explains how it works, and Cardiology Associates of Fredericksburg’s very own Interventional Cardiologist Rajiv Tayal, MD, tells who qualifies as the best candidates for this procedure.
Congratulations Dr. Gregory Kauffman!
Dr. Kauffman has been awarded the Mary Washington Healthcare Pillars of Excellence Award for Physician Excellence 2015.
The Physician Excellence Award is given to a physician that sets the standards for ethical and clinical quality and embodies a caring culture by treating patients with an open heart and by serving as their advocate. This physician also exemplifies the best people practices by treating staff and colleagues with respect.
Dr. Kauffman has given CAF and MWHC over 20 years of dedicated service. He served as the Medical Director of Non-Invasive Cardiology Services for many years and currently holds the position of Chief of the Department of Medicine at Mary Washington Hospital.
Make Men’s Health Week Count

In light of Men’s Health Week and Father’s Day, we would like to remind all of our brothers, fathers, grandfathers and husbands out there to contact your physician to be screened for diabetes, heart disease, high blood pressure, cancer and other common risk factors. Men make half as many preventative doctor visits as women! Make this week a week that you take the next step toward a healthier you!
